20 September, 2006

We arrived in Geneva, the most international city in Switzerland and I was not expecting anything special. It is a fairly big city and is on Lake Lemon, the biggest lake in Europe. It is a beautiful green city with loads of rose gardens and parks to relax in. A floral clock symbolizes the watch industry and a special feature to the city is the water fountain (jet d’eau) 134m into the air. The seat of the United Nations and the Red Cross emanate the worldliness of this city. We walked around the cobbled streets of the old town and the modern town with all the hip shops and latest fashion. Of course we had to buy a slab or four of Cailler- our favorite chocolate. We then made our way back to France and stopped in Beaune. This town was recommended to us and we were told that it is a very pretty area. Getting in late, just in time for tourist information, we landed up at a B&B hotel 1km outside the town. At first we were disappointed with the accommodation since we were in the French countryside of Burgundy after all. And then we thought that it would be one night’s sleep and we will move on. The room was clean, breakfast was good and value for money was superb. It worked out well after all! We had dinner in the town of Beaune and it was a superb French meal. Snails to start, Beef Bourgognon for main and Profiterole for dessert- real Frenchies.
