22 September, 2006

What a nightmare breakfast. We paid 7 Euros for a dry piece of bread and jam and coffee that was undrinkable. Oh, and we got no plates either. They insisted that this was the typical French breakfast- I have my doubts.
We decided to visit the Citadelle before leaving Besancon. This was an olden day palace surrounded by ramparts and consists of huge fields and rooms. We visited the resistance museum within the grounds and it was all about World War II from a French Perspective. We walked around the grounds and decided it was enough History for the moment. We needed to go and taste some wine back in the Alsace region where we started our trip. We enjoyed the late afternoon tasting loads of wines and they were wonderful. We absolutely love the wines in this area and highly recommend it to white wine drinkers. Unfortunately we met people who were so friendly and helpful but they sent us off to some small town called Thann which they recommended and it was a disaster. To cut a long story short we spent Rosh Hashanah in this town having a miserable dinner (Charcroute) and not feeling great. We were really disappointed because we knew what some of the other little towns had to offer and here we were stuck in this one and it was already a bit too late to start finding somewhere else. We had an early night and we were looking forward to seeing Bart, Sylwunka and fam again.
