30 October, 2006

We decided to brave the city and the sights of Kathmandu. We walked around the Royal Palace to find out that we could not enter. Then we headed to Durbar Square which is where all the Temples are situated. We hired a pathetic guide but the Temples were gorgeous. We walked to Monkey Temple which is about 3km away and it was an interesting walk. We passed quite a bit of refuse and of course the local shops and houses. It was interesting to see loads of children all in school uniform and leaving school quite late in the afternoon. Some of them were trying to speak English to us. The Monkey Temple was very pretty and there were plenty of monkeys running around but the whole area was so commercialized. There were so many stalls and vendors inside trying to sell goods to all the visitors. The views of the city from there were great and we walked back to Thamel (tourist zone). We had a lovely Thai dinner and headed back to our hotel for Lindt chocolate and tea. Kristal realized that it was her last night here in Nepal and so we were upset that she was leaving us.
