4 November, 2006
We arrived in China early in the morning and we went straight to the information counter and asked them to write our hotel name in Chinese. Then we got to the bus ticketing counter and they told us which intercity bus to catch. The driver told us where to get off and from there we caught a cab (2 minutes) to the hotel. It all worked like clockwork. Driving into Beijing City from the airport was very inspiring. The roads are excellent and everywhere is so clean and tidy. We saw beautiful buildings and there are plenty of trees and greenery all kept so well. We could check into our hotel very early and as we walked into the room we were like little kids- such excitement. This massive room with a king size bed, soft linens and a very spongy, soft, clean carpet. The bathroom was ‘normal’ and there were all the little toiletries and bath gels. All the little things that lead to such excitement. Rich got stuck in to the washing again, we had space and time. We decided to have a sleep and when we woke up we braved it on the underground into the city. We started in Tiananman Square and it was bustling with tourists. We had Peking duck with pancakes for lunch and it was so good but really rich. We walked around the little alleyways and streets and it was so vibrant and wonderful. There was so much food around and so many gimmicks and tricks. I had an amazing foot massage and we really enjoyed the evening strolling about.
