7 November, 2006

We were on our way to The Great Wall of China. We decided to do it the non-touristy way this time and caught a subway to the bus station. We then asked about 6 buses with the same numbers and they all refused to let us on. Finally a bus slammed on breaks in the middle of the road and a feisty lady was calling out Badaling Badaling. That was the part of the wall we wanted to visit and so we found the bus- or it found us. It was really quite pleasant and we got to the wall within 1hr 15 minutes. We walked along the wall for about two and a half hours. It was really tiring walking up steep stairs and slopes. The Wall was incredible, it went on forever and it blended in so well with the surrounding mountainous terrain. We walked out to the top watch tower and coming back we decided to take the non- touristy route which led us to a dead end and we had to back track a bit. It was quite windy but extremely clear so I guess we were very lucky to have such great views. We went for our second Starbucks on this trip, had a hot mocha and got back to Beijing. We went straight to a hostel that does bookings for shows and tours and booked for our acrobatics show. Dinner was atrocious again- boiled beef and fatty duck. The tour bus was apparently full so these two students took us on tricycles(three wheeler bicycle) to the show- it was quite a fun experience. The show was very good but the kids were so young. They were triple-jointed and performed the most spectacular acts.
