8 November, 2006

We fetched our Vietnam visas, packed up and went to Beihai Park. This is a massive park situated around a lake with lots of temples, halls and separate gardens. The Imperial Garden was amazing with all the rock formations, and bridges with ponds, and greenery (as opposed to flowers). We visited Jade Islet with its 36 m high white Pagoda. This was built in 1651 for a visit by the Dalai Lama. There were great views of the city from the top and the Yong’an Temple was very beautiful. It was very relaxing and pretty and we left to get to the restaurant near our hotel where we knew we would get some proper food. We had a decent meal and got our bags and left for the train station. We got on the train to Suzhou and it was pretty comfortable. We had a soft sleeper and there was a very nice Chinese fellow in our cabin with us.
