We started our day with a long walk- it felt so good! The island is just so gorgeous and some of the houses are serious mansions – those Beverly Hills type homes. The hedges are so well- kept and there are so many flowers everywhere. Hawaii’s national flower is the Yellow Hibiscus, by the way. The Diamond Head is quite similar to “Lion’s Head” back home- although the one big difference is that it was formed by means of volcanic activity! British sailors who arrived here thought that there were diamonds on the top and thus the name ‘Diamond Head’ was founded. In fact they found calcite crystals sparkling in the sun- shame for them Huh!
We spent the afternoon on the beach in the sun- it was wonderful- just relaxing and swimming in the ocean- it was amazing- the water was warm and one can stand for about 2km out- it is not deep at all. We got back to the hotel room (Rich managed to organize a special rate) and it was breezy and comfortable and just great. Why the hell were we leaving so soon??? We had an amazing Mexican dinner across the road and then did the famous washing in a wash machine for the first time in about 3 months – what a pleasure.
