9 January, 07

We arrived back on the Big Island in Kona or should I say Kailua - Kona. We rented a car for the day and we had a wonderful day touring the island. We drove through the windy roads with magnificent views and lush vegetation. We started at the Pu’Uhonua O Honaunau National Park and made our way up the South Kona Coast. We stopped at a few spots and tasted the famous Kona coffee- I think we got through all the blends by the end of the day. I don’t think we have ever had so much coffee in our lives. We also tasted the macadamia nuts again, for sh-ts and grins. We did a tour amongst the tropical trees and the cocoa trees and we now know how the coffee is produced. The people on the island are so relaxed and friendly and it is an absolutely wonderful place. We returned the car and walked around the cute shops in the town before getting on the tender to the ship. Dinner was superb, we went to the Italian restaurant and we ate so much- I was stuffed but could not let up on the tiramisu so I shoved it down, it was delicious. We had to pack up and it was sad to know that the cruise was over but it certainly wasn’t the best cruise we have done. In fact, I was happy to be back on terre ferme after all.
