2 February, 2007
We decided to go to Sunshine to ski today and it was a good call. We got a half day pass again because our little leggies can’t cope with more than 4 hrs of skiing. We had to catch a gondola up to Sunshine Village and it was really beautiful. The Rockies are really amazing and the only way to describe them is like a ‘cutting edge’. They almost have a serrated look and obviously covered in thick snow. There were quite a few chair lifts that we could choose from and we went up the ‘Strawberry Chair’ first. The green run had many rolling hills and a narrow-like valley in between. It was such fun and for the first time it felt like we were really skiing. We tried all the greens and we had a lot of fun. Unfortunately I had a bad fall and the ski that went flying off somehow jammed against my thigh and it was so painful. Luckily I could continue to ski and Rich also had one or two falls but nothing serious. His back started to hurt and so we were like real crocks at the end of the day. By then I was limping and I knew I would have a huge, fat bruise. Some of the views from the top of the run were magnificent and we really enjoyed the afternoon. We had gained a lot of confidence and were proud, slightly injured skiers.
A little episode that happened on the one green:
We started off fine and then somehow found ourselves on a black, which we didn’t want, so we reversed a little and tried to gain some speed for a hill that would get us back on the green. Well, it didn’t work too well, we both got stuck halfway up the hill and then we fell reversing down (towards the black again). We had a tough time getting out of the skis and getting up and I thought it was funny and Rich didn’t and so he had a bit of a fit, lost his nerve and fell again just over the hill. Yes, for those of you who can picture it all and are laughing, it was funny, although someone didn’t think it was! Monty was to blame!!!! (hey Pubes?).
We left Sunshine and got back to Banff town and we met up with Pubes, Sharon and Kids who were joining us for the weekend. We all checked in to an amazing condo/apartment and had a great evening. The outside hot pool was absolutely fabulous at the resort and we chilled in there for a while trying to recover from our falls.
