3 February, 2007
We woke up and we had a great breakfast in the condo before heading out to Lake Louise. It was a bitterly cold day even though the sun was shining and obviously the lake was frozen. It was still pretty and we walked around on the frozen lake and visited the Chateau Lake Louise which is a very smart hotel (for those of you who don’t know it). The views from the hotel are amazing and apparently in summer the lake is turquoise blue; it must be so pretty. They have built an ice castle on the lake in front of the hotel and there is an ice skating rink too but we forgot the skates at the condo. We went to visit the famous Banff Springs Hotel in the afternoon and it was also beautiful. There were 3 weddings all going on at the same time and it really is like an old castle. We had also heard about the famous ‘hot springs’ and so we drove up to take a look but we were very disappointed and so we all agreed that the hot pool back at the resort was far more appetizing than this mass of hot water filled with loads of bodies. We came back to our resort and we all went to wallow in the hot pool with the view of the snow-covered Rockies and a layer of mist hovering just above the water because it was so damn cold out there!
We got back to the room and Pubes grilled us some awesome steaks (world famous Alberta steaks??) on the BBQ. We have definitely had some of the best meat here in Calgary and obviously it is all about how it is prepared, right?! Rich met 2 guys in the sauna and so they arrived for leftovers after dinner and Pubes and Rich kept them entertained whilst Sharon and I snuck off to bed.
