23 February, 2007
We woke up and the floor was flooded, the tiles were wet and Rich almost sprained his other ankle. Then breakfast was terrible and nobody could speak English. The morning didn’t start off very well. To cut a long story short they insisted we stay in the same room and they would clean it up and solve the problem. The air con had to be on and then it had to be off?? We were not quite sure, but then they were blaming the builders on the island and said that all the hotels were the same and they all flood like this with the door open. What is the point of having a balcony room if you cannot open the door? Sometimes it is easier staying at a simple, cheap place with no frills and then one doesn’t expect anything. We got on with our day and we lay by the pool in the really hot weather. Then we took a stroll in the not so clean town and had some more pollo (chicken) for lunch (their staple diet). We chilled out on the balcony with the great Caribbean views and watched the parrots again, flying by; their wings spanned wide. It was very peaceful and quiet and we were once again so lucky to be experiencing such moments. We decided to go out for dinner and as we were leaving the room it was starting to flood again. This was not what we wanted and so once we found someone who could speak English we arranged that they clean it up and if need be we would move after dinner at whatever time we desired. We had another minor argument and this hotel was actually a shambles. We had another great dinner at a restaurant overlooking the beach and the music was wonderful. We had some sangria believing it to be 4000 Bolivares and then found out it was 40 000. Another argument and Rich paid what he wanted to pay and it didn’t end the evening on a good note. When we arrived back at the hotel, the aircon was on and the balcony door was shut. We were not happy with this and insisted moving to a cheaper room without a balcony since we couldn’t enjoy having it with the doors open. After a big fight we moved rooms at midnight and saved some money as well as any injuries from the wet floors. What an absolute joke it was- this hotel is not a 5 star in any way, means or form!
