26 February, 2007

We were leaving Juan Griego and it was time to move on to Playa El Agua – the tourist haven. We got to the terminal and as usual the taxis tried to rip us off but we knew better and went with the unofficial taxi. We got into a 1950’s ‘Jalopy’ (a term we use for a beat-up car), and off we went. A few kilometers down the road there was a road block and the driver quickly took off the sticker on the window saying ‘taxi’. We all had a laugh at that one! The drive was only 20 minutes and it was very pretty – along the coast and through the mountains. When we arrived it all looked so civilized and clean and we sat in a coffee bar trying to plan the next step. Rich went looking for a hotel this time, since I don’t negotiate well, and I sat for over an hour. It was well worth it because he found a reasonably priced all inclusive resort. It was good value for money and very clean and comfortable. The place is flooded with Europeans and Canadians trying to get away from their winter. We could only check in at 15h00 and so we ate some lunch, had some wine and sat by the lovely pool the entire afternoon drinking cocktails. There was a fun vibe at the hotel and we were very comfortable. It looks like we will be here for a few days.
