We had an early wake up call and off we went to the airport with Julia and Renzo. We checked in and said goodbye as if we were leaving but both parties pretty much knew that we wouldn’t make the flight! We not only went through the usual security procedures but ‘special’ security. That was so irritating and why us??? Anyway, we got through and waited at the gate until everyone boarded so we finally accepted the fact that we will not get on. We phoned Renzo and Julia and they came back to the airport to pick us up. I don’t think that they were far from the airport because they almost knew they would have to pick us up. We all went back home and did some admin and computer ‘stuff’. We then went for a walk in the park across the road and it wasn’t warm at all. The wind was blowing and my ears were aching. But the park was lovely and we saw lots of dogs running around and training so that was nice. It wasn’t a very long or strenuous walk but a bit of exercise and fresh air. We then all had an afternoon nap and Renzo took us to the airport; he was flying too; and so we tried to get on the flight again. We were lucky and we got on the flight no problem, what a relief. We had to go through the security check again- can you believe it- the special one! The flight was good, we were so tired but we couldn’t sleep and the food was shocking. We arrived in Costa Rica and the taxi drivers started lying to us. We passed through them and made our way to the bus station. Even though everyone was telling us there were no buses! We waited and low and behold our bus arrived and we got to San Jose. On the bus we met a friendly Tico who helped us with some plans and we also met some dodgy American on drugs claiming that his money and bags were stolen and trying to sell underwear- really weird. We got off the bus at some dodgy terminal and then got in a cab to our hotel. Everyone made us petrified and made us believe it was worse than Jhb- if that is possible?! We felt scared but we got to the hotel, checked in and had a good nights sleep.
