5 March, 2007
We had a shitty breakfast across the road at the hostel. Our hotel wasn’t too bad but there was no restaurant and we had to share a bathroom, but the room was clean. We spent the day walking through the city and exploring the danger zone. Well, we started in Barrio Amon with its concentration of mansions and colonial flare and then we made our way to Avenida Central, walked passed all the museums, the Mercado and finally got to La Sabana which is a very large park away from the city noise, chaos and pollution. We stopped at a pub for a drink- a real tourist pub- and we didn’t want to be on foot in the dark. So, we stopped at the supermarket (which happened to be a Walmart) and had a roast chicken with rice and fried banana for dinner- how sad is that!. We were back at our hotel safely, no gunpoint or attacks and ready for an early night.
