6 March, 2007

We took it easy and decided to leave San Jose- enough of the big city. We found a good, cheap spot for breakfast and did some internet and phone calls. We got a taxi to the bus terminal and had to wait about one and a half hours for the bus to Quepos- a town known for its tourism, commercial fishing and oil plantations. We had an absolutely horrendous bus journey, it lasted about three and a half to four hours, and it was sweltering hot, we were squashed in the bus, uncomfortable and I was full of cold. The temperature must have been about 40 degrees celcius and there was no air conditioning on the bus! Well, we had a bit of a fight on the bus: Rich wanted to put his seat back since it was so jam packed and there is nothing wrong with that. The lady behind had a baby on her lap and was not happy. She eventually moved but her friend kept digging her knees into my seat and that was not comfortable at all. Then out of nowhere this lady klaps Rich on the head and you can just imagine!!! There was a bit of excitement on the bus and the Ticos were ready to get into a fight… There was tension on the bus and so the journey was not pleasant. We finally got to Quepos, a little dirty town and we checked into the Best Western (which is supposedly the best hotel in town). We tried having cold showers but the sweat kept pouring and the temperature stayed pretty much the same in the evening. We walked around and had a happy hour cocktail and met some German fellows. We had a great dinner and got to bed pretty early - again!
