The alarm clock was set for 7h00 and we were waking up to meet Alex and co for the daytrip to an island. But, Rich was feeling terrible and he was not getting up for anything or anyone. So I managed to phone Alex on a broken line and tried to explain that Rich was ill. We were so upset and disappointed that we couldn’t go. I decided to go back to sleep and we both woke up at 12 midday. Can you believe that?! I wasn’t even sick. We decided to get out for the afternoon and we went to Sugar Loaf (Pao de Acucar). There are two cable cars that take you up and the first one stops at Morro da Urca with an amphitheatre view and the next one continues to the top with 360 degree panoramic views of the city and beyond. We got back to Copacabana and we didn’t go for the walk we had planned because Rich was really not up to it. We had an early night and had to pack because we had booked a flight to Salvador for tomorrow. We really want to stay here longer but it is not possible and we would have to forfeit the flight. We have pretty much seen the city itself but there are many day trips and short trips to do and the one we really wanted to do with our local friends we couldn’t do. We will have to come back to Rio again. The people are friendly, the food is so good and service everywhere is excellent.
